How to use the scanners

The scanners are essentially mobile phones with a scanner built in. The scanning process is managed by the App called Future Ticketing.

  1. Press the power button (red) to switch the phone on. Wait.
  2. On start up there may be notifications on the screen, swipe up to remove these.
  3. Tap the Future Ticketing App to start it.
  4. The first thing to do is download the details of the tickets purchased, so when prompted choose your meeting from the dropdown list available.
  5. Having done this, enter a nickname for the scanner e.g. “meeting name” 1 or “meeting name 2”. You must enter something at this point.
  6. Tap Start. The screen will change and you are now ready to start scanning.
  7. The scanner light and receiving window is at the top of the scanner. To scan, point the top of the scanner towards the square bar code on the e-ticket and press the SCAN button on the scanner to activate the red light.

A beep will indicate a successful scan.

IMPORTANT – The scanners do occasionally become unreliable. Please try to scan tickets to remind customers that they will not get away with photocopying them BUT if the scanner doesn’t work, freezes or does nothing then use common sense. Check the ticket for the correct event and date and let the car in.

If you get a message about the date on the ticket being incorrect do a visual check to make sure the visitor is not trying to use last year’s ticket. If it is a ticket from this year then let them in. The scanners sometimes get confused by meetings changing date and/or the opening hours of the event may have been set up incorrectly. Blame me!

If you accidentally press a different button on the scanner and the usual scanning screen disappears you may need to restart the FT App to get it back. Press the Back button (top left of keyboard) to return to point 4 above. The same applies if the screen goes to sleep. If in doubt, a SHORT press of the red power button should wake it up again. Do not press it for too long or it will try to shut down.

Switching off

When you have finished please Press and Hold the power button and choose POWER OFF. Return the scanners to the meeting Secretary or directly to me if you see me (Nico) first!
